Our Designer Tips & Favourite Sources
When it comes to welcoming guests into your home, comfort and style really do go hand in hand. There’s something so thoughtful about walking into a guest room with a beautifully made bed — soft sheets, plump pillows, and that little touch of luxury that makes people feel instantly cared for.
But with so many options out there, choosing the right bedding can be very overwhelming. So, I thought I’d share where designers (including me!) love to shop for the perfect combination of comfort, quality and timeless style.
1. Linen Bedding
Linen is always a favourite for guest rooms — it’s breathable, naturally textured, and softens beautifully over time. It gives that relaxed, elegant look that feels effortless yet luxurious.
Designer tip: I love linen from Bedfolk or Piglet in Bed — their tones are so soothing and pair beautifully with most interior palettes.
2. Egyptian Cotton
If you want to give your guests that boutique-hotel feel, you can’t go wrong with Egyptian cotton. Look for a high thread count (I’d say 400 or above) for that crisp, smooth finish.
Where to shop: The White Company and Vis a Vis have gorgeous options you can personalise. The quality and service are second none. Soho Home are my go-tos for timeless, refined cotton bedding that lasts beautifully.
3. Organic Cotton
For those who prefer an eco-friendly option, organic cotton is soft, breathable, and gentle on the skin. It’s perfect if you’re conscious of sustainability but don’t want to compromise on luxury.
Try: Dip & Doze or Rise & Fall — both offer sustainably made bedding in lovely muted shades.
4. Velvet or Quilted Throws
The finishing touch that makes a guest bed feel inviting is always texture. A velvet or quilted throw adds instant warmth and a sense of comfort — not to mention a touch of personality.
Favourite finds: Rebecca Udall and Soho Home have really stunning throws with that chic, understated French charm. I also adore Daylesford Home for their natural, textural pieces too.
5. Pillows with Support and Style
Pillows make all the difference. I like to mix firm and soft options so guests can choose what suits them best, then add one or two beautiful cushions for that layered, designer look.
Where to shop: Soak & Sleep and Tielle both offer brilliant quality fillings and lovely covers that wash well and hold their shape. Tielle are used by some of the UK’s top hotels and their pillows make all the difference to a good night’s sleep in our view!
