Because sometimes the best design inspiration hits you somewhere between a scandal and a chandelier.

There’s something magical about a good period drama, the storylines, the costumes, the soft piano music in the background… but if you’re like me, you’re also zooming in on the panelling, the wallpaper, and the layers of furniture placement.

At Haysey Designs, I often find myself gathering ideas while watching TV (technically research, right?). It’s not about copying a style – it’s about absorbing the feeling, the storytelling, the wow factor. These are my favourite series to draw from when it comes to period interiors, and if you love timeless design, I think you’ll enjoy them too.

1. The Crown
Royal grandeur meets quiet luxury

The first season in particular is just enchanting, those rich colours, layered textures, and palatial sets that instantly pull you into another world. I adored the storyline, of course, but I’ll admit: I watched just as much for the interiors! From velvet headboards to gilded cornices, every room is utterly cinematic.

Steal the look: Introduce a jewel-toned accent chair, a sleek mid-century lamp or even a framed vintage portrait. Go for understated drama.

2. Pride and Prejudice
Romantic Georgian simplicity

Whether you favour Colin Firth in a pond or Keira Knightley in a field, both versions deliver dreamy interiors. Expect symmetrical rooms, soft natural light, delicate detailing and gently worn finishes, all set against that classic English countryside backdrop.

Steal the look: Use a muted colour palette, light-filtering linen curtains, and a mix of traditional and handmade accessories to echo that old-world charm.

3. Bridgerton
Playful Regency maximalism

A riot of pastel tones, oversized florals, sweeping staircases and, yes, gilded everything. It’s completely over the top – and that’s what makes it fun. While not historically rigid, the Bridgerton interiors are gloriously layered and full of ideas worth borrowing, especially if you love a more decorative scheme.

Steal the look: Introduce a wallpaper feature wall, add decorative plasterwork, or go bold with a velvet sofa in blush, sage or cornflower blue.

4. Downton Abbey
Layered Edwardian elegance with real-life warmth

This one’s a masterclass in balance: stately, but never sterile. From the grandeur of the upstairs drawing rooms to the heart-of-the-home kitchen downstairs, it’s all about character. You can feel the history in every room, but nothing feels overly polished.

Steal the look: Combine plush, timeless furnishings with antique touches. Use patterned rugs and a few traditional table lamps to bring that layered feel to modern life.

5. Peaky Blinders
Industrial edge meets vintage drama

It’s moody, it’s smoky, it’s full of grit – and it’s weirdly stylish. Think dark panelled walls, rich tobacco leathers, cut glass decanters, aged mirrors and beautifully worn textures. What makes it pop is the industrial undertone: exposed brick, cast iron detailing, even a bit of factory grit alongside those lavish interiors.

Steal the look: Paint a room in a deep heritage shade, add vintage lighting with exposed bulbs, or bring in aged brass or blackened steel to contrast with more traditional elements.

Ready to Bring Some Period Style Home?

You don’t need to live in a Georgian townhouse or Edwardian estate to create a space that feels rich with character. Sometimes it’s as simple as the right lamp, a vintage artwork, or a moody paint colour to set the tone.

If you’d love help weaving classic details into your home — while keeping it practical and liveable — I’d be delighted to help.
