The Fife Arms, Braemar, Scotland
Nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, The Fife Arms is a masterclass in eclectic luxury. This 19th-century hunting lodge has been transformed into a boutique hotel that seamlessly blends traditional Scottish elements, classical interior style with contemporary art. The moment you step inside, you’re enveloped in a world where tartan and tweed mingle with Picasso and Freud. Over 14,000 artworks adorn the walls, creating a museum-like experience in a cosy, highland setting.
The hotel’s public spaces are a feast for the eyes, with dramatic antler chandeliers casting a warm glow over bespoke furnishings and luxurious wallpapers and rich tones on the walls. Each of the 46 rooms tells a unique story, drawing inspiration from Scottish culture, history, and landscape. Whether you’re sipping whisky by a roaring fire or admiring the hand-painted murals in your suite, The Fife Arms offers an unforgettable immersion in Scottish design at its finest.
In the heart of the City of London, The Ned stands as a testament to 1920s grandeur meets modern sophistication. Housed in the former Midland Bank building, this Grade I-listed edifice has been meticulously restored and reimagined. The grand banking hall, now home to eight restaurants, retains its original verdite columns and chequerboard floors, creating a breathtaking first impression.
Throughout The Ned, you’ll find thoughtful nods to the building’s banking heritage. Original walnut counters have been repurposed as dining areas, while the former bank vaults now house an opulent cocktail bar. The 250 bedrooms are a study in vintage glamour, with tactile furnishings, rainforest showers, and handcrafted beds. For the ultimate indulgence, head to the rooftop, where a pool offers panoramic views of St. Paul’s Cathedral – a perfect blend of historical context and contemporary luxury.

Gleneagles is the epitome of Scottish country house elegance. Recently refurbished, this iconic hotel combines elegant tradition with contemporary luxury in a way that feels both timeless and fresh. The renovation has breathed new life into the property, enhancing its inherent grandeur while adding modern comforts and style.
The American Bar, inspired by the glamour of the 1920s, is a particularly super highlight. Hand-painted de Gournay wallpaper (can you tell we are fans) create a backdrop of Scottish wilderness, complemented by plush velvet furnishings in rich, jewel tones and the result is so enveloping. Throughout the hotel, you’ll find bespoke carpets featuring native Scottish flora, adding a subtle touch of local character. The bedrooms and suites offer a perfect retreat, with gorgeous fabrics, elegant furniture, and views over the hotel’s 850-acre estate. Gleneagles proves that traditional luxury can be reimagined for the 21st century without losing its soul.
This 17th-century manor house near Canterbury has been carefully restored with a focus on relaxed luxury and local heritage. The Pig’s signature style – which they describe as “shabby chic” – is on full display here, creating spaces that feel lived-in and loved.
The design at Bridge Place celebrates the building’s history while adding contemporary comforts. We particularly enjoy the reclaimed wood and exposed brick walls. They create a warm, rustic atmosphere, while touches of luxury like the freestanding copper bathtubs add the classier touches and sense of indulgence. The colour scheme is inspired by the hotel’s kitchen gardens, bringing a sense of the outdoors in which is very on trend and important to us all at the moment.
Interestingly, each room is unique, filled with an eclectic mix of furniture that looks as if it’s been collected and lovingly curated over centuries. The overall effect is one of understated elegance – a place where you can truly relax and feel at home.
In the heart of London’s West End, The Londoner redefines the concept of a boutique hotel. Dubbed the world’s first “super boutique” hotel, this architectural wonder – and it really is that – spans 16 stories, with 350 rooms, six concept eateries, a CINEMA and an entire floor dedicated to wellness which is wonderful.
The Londoner’s incredible interior design, crafted by Yabu Pushelberg, is a celebration of contemporary British style with a gentle global twist. As you enter, you will see a striking art installation – a testament to the hotel’s commitment to creating immersive, artistic spaces. The colour scheme throughout is warm, exciting and inviting, with rich golds, deep blues, and soft neutrals creating a sense of quiet luxury.
One of the hotel’s most impressive design features is its rooftop izakaya lounge, 8 at The Londoner. It’s a change in the landscape and very much Japanese minimalism meets British eclecticism, with bamboo ceilings, intricate woodwork and panoramic views of the London skyline, creating a truly unique dining experience you will thoroughly enjoy.
The Retreat, the hotel’s wellness space, is a very calm oasis. With soft lighting, natural materials and textures and a wonderfully calming colour scheme, it offers a stark contrast to the bustling energy of Leicester Square just beyond the walls.
The Londoner, for us, showcases how modern hotel design can create a sense of intimacy and personalisation, even on a grand scale. It’s a perfect example of how contemporary luxury can be both impressive and welcoming.
